Minimizing emissions in air travel

Norwegian aims to achieve a 45 percent reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger kilometre (RPK) by 2030 compared to 2010 levels. We hope to achieve this through a combination of fleet renewal, increased use of sustainable aviation fuel, operational efficiency improvements, and by promoting better travel choices to our customers.

Aviation remains a high-emission industry, contributing to both CO₂ and non-CO₂ emission. Norwegian is firmly committed to minimizing the environmental footprint of our flights.

 Fleet renewal

By 2030 Norwegian plans to replace the Boeing 737-800 with Boeing 737 MAX 8

 Sustainable Aviation Fuel

We plan to increase our SAF use with up to 20 % by 2030. SAF is an alternative to conventional aviation fuels, often made from bio-waste such as used cooking oil or waste from foresting industries. The lifecycle emissions from SAF used are at least 65% lower than traditional jet fuel, though combustion CO2 is similar.
